Arizona was assigned a No. 2 NCAA Tournament seed in the South Region and will face Princeton in a first-round game ThursdayΒ  in Sacramento, California.

The game will be televised at 1:10 p.m. on TNT.

The Tigers (21-8) finished in a first-place tie with Yale for the Ivy League title at 10-4 but beat Yale in the Ivy League tournament championship game.

"They're an Ivy League school, so I'm sure they're going to be smarter than us," UA coach Tommy Lloyd said in a brief address to fans at the Wildcats' watch party at the Union Public House. "Then obviously, they have a well-established system and a coach (Mitch Henderson) who has been there forever."

If Wildcats (28-6) beat Princeton, they would advance to a second round game Saturday against the winner of a first-round game between No. 7 seed Missouri and No. 10 seed Utah State.

Two Arizona wins in Sacramento next weekend would move the Wildcats into the South Regional games (Sweet 16 and Elite Eight) at Louisville, Kentucky. Alabama is the South Region's No. 1 seed, while Baylor is No. 3 and Virginia is No. 4.

"We're just gonna go game to game," Lloyd said before the selection show was broadcast.

Arizona finished in a second place tie in the Pac-12 with a 14-6 conference record but beat UCLA 61-59 to win the Pac-12 Tournament title. The Wildcats carried a No. 10 ranking in the NET and Kenpom into Selection Sunday, but boosted their resume with a 9-2 record in Quad 1 games.

One of the NCAA selection committee's more scrutinized decisions was whether they would put UCLA or Arizona into the West Region, with carries with it the right to play second-weekend games in Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena, where the Pac-12 Tournament is played.

UCLA (29-5 overall) went 18-2 to win the Pac-12 regular season title by four games, and traditionally the selection committee has placed the conference's champion in the West Region. But UA beat the Bruins twice in three games, and have one more Quad 1 win than UCLA (8-5 in Quad 1s).
