Arizona Wildcats forward Deandre Ayton (13) shoots the ball over UMBC Retrievers forward Max Portmann (34) in the first half during a game at McKale Center on November 12, 2017.

Allonzo Trier, Deandre Ayton and Rawle Alkins were among the 50 college basketball players named Tuesday to the Wooden Award's preseason watch list.

Only Duke -- with Grayson Allen, Marvin Bagley and Trevon Duval -- also had three players on the watch list for the national player of the year award.

Other players on the list from the Pac-12: USC's Jordan McLaughlin and Chimezie Metu, UCLA's Aaron Holiday and Stanford's Reid Travis.

While Alkins remains out with a broken foot, Trier and Ayton both started their season playing at an honors-candidate level last weekend.

Trier had 32 points on 10-for-13 shooting on Friday in UA's 101-67 win over NAU and 30 points on 10-for-18 shooting to help the Wildcats beat UMBC 103-78 on Sunday.

Ayton had 19 points on 6-for-11 shooting with 12 rebounds against NAU, then 19 points on 9-for-13 shooting with 13 rebounds against UMBC.
