UA coach Sean Miller announced Friday he has dismissed sophomore guard Devonaire Doutrive for an unspecified violation of team rules.

Doutrive had already been suspended for UA's exhibition games and two regular-season games, then played in the past three games. A UA spokesman declined to say if Doutrive was suspended for a repeated or different violation this time.

"Effective immediately, Devonaire Doutrive has been dismissed from our menโ€™s basketball program for violation of team rules," Miller said in a statement. "He will continue to receive academic aid and support through the remainder of the current semester. We wish him well in the next steps of his academic and athletic career."

The dismissal puts an end to Doutrive's short and curious stay with the Wildcats.

Doutrive was the first recruit to commit in the spring of 2018 when the Wildcats had only six players on their roster, and showed flashes of athleticism, confidence and offensive rebounding that made him a fan favorite as a freshman last season.

But Doutrive played in only 26 of 32 games last season, averaging 11.0 minutes, and his guardian announced he would transfer in May, but Doutrive said in June thatย he was returning.

Doutrive then reported to the Wildcats in July and twice won the team's weekly gold practice jersey honors in October for being the team's most productive player. But he was suspended before the Wildcats' Nov. 1 exhibition game against Chico State, and he also missed Arizona's first two exhibition games.

While Miller had referred to Doutrive as a starter last month before the suspension, he started Dylan Smith at shooting guard for all of the Wildcats' five games. Doutrive averaged 6.3 points in 17.1 average minutes over UA's past three games.

The dismissal of Doutrive is the Wildcats' first since Miller dismissed Sidiki Johnson in December 2012 while guard Josiah Turner also left the programย  after that season following two suspensions that also suggested behavioral issues.
