SEATTLE – Arizona coach Sean Miller said today Rawle Alkins will likely start Saturday at Washington and that the Wildcats β€œanticipate him being with us from now until the end.”

That could mean an end to Alkins’ in-and-out status over the previous two weeks because of soreness in his previously broken right foot. Alkins sat out UA’s Jan. 17 game at Cal, returned to play 34 minutes at Stanford on Jan. 20 and then missed the following two games when the soreness returned.

Miller said his staff is taking a more cautious approach with him this time, and Alkins sat out the Wildcats’ practice Thursday as a result after playing 16 minutes off the bench against Washington State on Wednesday, though he did practice Friday at Washington.

Reached after the Wildcats returned from practice Friday, Miller said Alkins may also sit out some Monday practices during normal game weeks, though he does not have a minute restriction on him in Saturday’s game.

β€œAgainst Washington State, because he took so much time, we just wanted to make sure and check with him during the game and after the game. But he’s doing fine,” Miller said. β€œWe’re gonna err on the side of caution and not put him at risk. He knows that.

"And in his case it’s just a matter of him being honest in how he feels and we kind of react to that. But we really anticipate him being with us from now until the end.”
