With Book Richardson now officially fired, Arizona finally responded to one of the many public records requests we made regarding questions that arose after the federal investigation was made public on Sept. 26.
But it was essentially blank. Since sports agent Christian Dawkins was quoted in the Sept. 26 federal complaint that a current UA player has been paid and that he could attend UA practices "like I'm on the team," we sought to find out how often he was actually there. (UA coach Sean Miller has declined to answer questions about Dawkins' involvement and other specifics in the federal complaint).
Our Oct. 4 public records request asked UA for any log or record of attendees to Arizona men’s basketball practices, including NBA scouts, sports agents, coaches or others not on UA’s coaching or playing rosters.
“The University has no records responsive to your request,” the UA wrote in response on Wednesday. (The PDF is attached).
Arizona still has not responded to many other public records requests filed by the Star in the wake of the Sept. 26 complaint.
Miller has consistently responded to questions about the ongoing federal and UA-commissioned investigations by saying that he stands by his statement of supporting the investigations and that he's run a program committed to integrity.
Lately, Miller has also frequently answered investigation-related questions by saying only that he's focused on his team, as he did when asked about Colorado coach Tad Boyle's remarks on Jan. 6 that it meant more to beat a team involved with the federal investigation.
