Seen and heard: A lesson from Zion, Ryan Luther goes downtown, and a 'pretty' Chase Jeter

The Star's Justin Spears offers up the sights and sounds from McKale Center, where the Wildcats got back in the win column with a 76-51 thrashing of Cal on Thursday night.
Spooked by Zion?
UpdatedLike Duke, Arizona is a Nike brand school. Unlike Zion Williamson, the Wildcats weren’t wearing Paul George Nike shoes during Thursday night’s game. Instead, the Wildcats wore sneakers from the Kobe, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving lines.
In Duke’s game Wednesday night against North Carolina, Williamson exited the game 33 seconds into the first half after his left foot busted through his Nike “PG 2.5” shoe, and he suffered a Grade 1 sprain in his right knee.
Brandon Randolph and other Wildcats have been spotted wearing PGs in the past. But the Wildcats decided to shy away from the Paul Georges — at least for now.
Ballin’ like Iverson
UpdatedThree Arizona signees for the 2019 class will play in the Allen Iverson Roundball Classic. The Iverson Classic is similar to the Jordan Brand Classic or the McDonald’s All-American Game, where it invites the best high school basketball talent from around the country.
Five-star Phoenix point guard Nico Mannion, four-star power forward Zeke Nnaji and shooting guard Terry Armstrong are the UA representatives for the Iverson Classic.
Split up between two teams, Mannion will play for “Team Loyalty” while Nnaji and Armstrong will compete with “Team Honor.”
Current Arizona guard Brandon Williams represented Team Loyalty last year. The Iverson Classic is in its third year and will be played on April 24. A location, schedule, broadcast and other information will be available at a later date.
Hoffman added to intro video
UpdatedBefore announcing Arizona’s starting lineup, McKale Center shuts off the lights and plays a hype video counting down all of the UA’s accomplishments such as NBA Draft picks, All-Americans, conference championships, Sweet 16s, Elite Eights, Final Fours and of course, Lute Olson showing off his national championship ring.
At the end of the video, Sean Miller traditionally caps it off with, “This is Arizona,” but UA went a different route Thursday.
Arizona alumnus and baseball Hall of Famer Trevor Hoffman was added to the “This is …” portion of the video. But instead of Miller finishing it, former Wildcat Deandre Ayton took the honors.
Hoffman was in Tucson last weekend to have his No. 15 jersey retired at Hi Corbett Field. Hoffman retired from baseball ranked second all-time in games saved.
A not-so-good number
Updated1
Number of 3-pointers Randolph has made since the loss to Washington three weeks ago. The sophomore guard is 1 of 16 from beyond the arc since Feb. 7. On Thursday, Randolph made 1 of 4 3-pointers and ended his four-game drought in which he was 0 for 12.
Luther likes downtown
UpdatedNobody on Arizona has a better shooting percentage from 3-point range over the last three games than power forward Ryan Luther. Nobody.
Since the start of last week’s road trip to Utah and Colorado, Luther has made 13 of 23 3-pointers, including five Thursday night against Cal. Luther tied his season-high of 19 points in the win, and his five 3s also tied a season-high.
The big number
Updated382
Number of days since Cal last won a game in the Pac-12, which was against Oregon State on Feb. 3, 2018. Now riding a 15-game losing streak, it’s been 63 days since the Golden Bears have won a game, which was against San Jose State on Dec. 21. The Golden Bears have only won four other games this season: Cal Poly, San Diego State, Santa Clara and Hampton.
He said it
Updated“Nobody. I’m too pretty.”
— Chase Jeter during the “Get to know your Wildcat” segment at halftime when asked who his doppelganger is. Jeter also added his fear of the dark, his admiration for actress Scarlett Johansson and shared that his favorite cartoon character is Marvin the Martian.
