PASADENA, Calif. — Observations from warmups before the Arizona Wildcats’ game against UCLA on Saturday night at the Rose Bowl (7:30 p.m., ESPN2):
* Arizona is really thin at cornerback tonight. Starters Tim Hough and Lorenzo Burns aren't dressed. Hough is believed to be an off-field situation, Burns an injury. Projected 2018 starter Jace Whittaker is dressed but isn't expected to play.
* With those three out, it appears that the Wildcats will start a pair of freshmen at corner: McKenzie Barnes and Christian Young. Young had been playing safety. The second-team corners during warmups were Azizi Hearn and Antonio Parks. The third-teamers: Troy Young and Malik Hausman.
* The offensive line also will have a different look. Left tackle Layth Friekh, who has been battling ankle issues the past three weeks, did not work with the first unit. Here’s how they lined up, from left to right: Donovan Laie, Michael Eletise, Josh McCauley, Bryson Cain, Cody Creason.
* Quarterback Khalil Tate is in the building. He’s wearing a red polo and sweats. This is the first game he will miss since early last season. Rhett Rodriguez is set to make his first career start.
* It appears that Kylan Wilborn will be returning to the starting lineup at “Stud.” He did not play last week at Utah.
* Dereck Boles lined up with the first team at nose tackle. He missed the final two-plus quarters at Utah.
