La Jolla Country Day quarterback Braxton Burmeister verbally committed to the Arizona Wildcats on Friday, two months after reopening his commitment.Β

AfterΒ Braxton BurmeisterΒ received an offer from Oregon earlier this week, there was some question as to whether the four-star Arizona commit might waver on his plan to enroll early at UA.

That is unlikely β€” Burmeister still plans to enroll early at Arizona and will move into campus before class begins on Jan. 11, the Star has learned.Β

Burmeister will likely room with running back Nathan Tilford, another four-star UA commit. Both will join linebackersΒ Jose RamirezΒ andΒ Tony Fields, tight endΒ Bryce Gilbert and defensive linemanΒ Sione Taufahema as 2017 recruits enrolling early. All will participate in Arizona's spring drills, which began in February last year.Β

Oregon was considered a late threat for Burmeister by some because of his connection toΒ Akili Smith, an Oregon alum and former NFL player, who is one of Burmeister's personal trainers. Smith helped push the Ducks, led by new coach Willie Taggart,Β to offer Burmeister a scholarship.Β

Tilford is Arizona's highest-rated recruit, according to Scout.com, but Burmeister might be its most important. The La Jolla (Calif.) Country Day alum is expected to compete right away for playing time at quarterback with returners Brandon Dawkins and Khalil TateAnu Solomon announced his intent to transfer last month.

As a senior at Country Day, Burmeister passed for 4,461 yards, 53 touchdowns and eight interceptions while rushing for 1,470 yards and 27 touchdowns.Β
