Arizona seems to be building some momentum in its 2018 recruiting class.Β

Saturday, the Wildcats secured a verbal commitment from cornerbackΒ McKenzie Barnes, a 6-foot, 170-pounder from Fresno, California.Β

"For the next 4-5 years I am looking forward to furthering my education and career (at) the University of Arizona," Barnes wrote in a message posted to Twitter. (The tweet is at the bottom of the page)

Barnes, from Edison High School, is rated a three-star recruit by Scout.com and the 24th-best cornerback in California. He chose the Wildcats despite offers from Oregon, Mississippi State and Washington State.

He's the 11th player to commit to Arizona's 2018 class, which recently added two defensive linemen inΒ Josh Walker of IMG Academy in Florida andΒ Mykee Irving of Calabasas (California) High School. Both Irving and Walker picked Arizona over UCLA. Six of Arizona's 11 commitments come on the defensive side of the ball.

After this season, the Wildcats will lose No. 1 cornerbackΒ Dane Cruikshank, who is entering his senior season and Arizona has been looking for depth at the position. The Wildcats addedΒ Tony Wallace andΒ Malik Hausman to the roster this season as part of its 2017 recruiting class.
