Arizona has hired Brian Johnson as its director of strength and conditioning for football.

The university did not make a formal announcement, but Johnson is listed in the staff directory.

Johnson worked as an assistant strength and conditioning coach last year at Texas A&M under new Wildcats coach Kevin Sumlin. Johnsonโ€™s official title was sports performance coach for football.

Before that, Johnson served in a similar capacity for the San Francisco 49ers and at LSU, his alma mater. Johnson played offensive line for the Tigers and was a member of LSUโ€™s 2003 national-championship team.

Johnson also has worked in the strength-and-conditioning programs at Akron and Florida State. He played briefly in the NFL.

Itโ€™s unclear what the future holds for the UA football programโ€™s previous strength coaches, Chris Allen and Parker Whiteman.
