BERKELEY, Calif. – Observations from warmups before the Arizona Wildcats’ game against Cal tonight at California Memorial Stadium:
* Defensive tackle Luca Bruno, listed as probable because of a concussion, lined up with the first-string defense during the team portion of warmups. It appears he will start after missing last week.
* As expected, freshman safety Troy Young also worked with the first unit. He is set to make his first career start in place of fellow freshman Scottie Young Jr., who is out because of a knee injury and did not make the trip.
* Cal starting left tackle Patrick Mekari is out. Guard Kamryn Bennett slides to left tackle, with Ryan Gibson starting at left guard. Mekari had started the Golden Bears’ first seven games.
* Tight end Trevor Wood was working on short snaps while Nathan Eldridge was snapping to Khalil Tate. Wood took over the snapping duties for placement kicks last game, and it appears he will serve in that role to start this game.
* Freshman kicker Lucas Havrisik made a 57-yard field during warmups, into a slight head wind.
* Ex-Arizona assistant Charlie Ragle exchanged hugs and hellos with his former co-workers on the field about two hours before kickoff. Ragle left the UA in the offseason to become the special teams coach for Cal.
