Jordan Geist in the shot put, Bryant O’Georgia in the high jump, and the women’s 400-meter relay team recorded strong performances Saturday in Sacramento to advance to the NCAA track and field championships in two weeks.
Geist threw 66-6 to finish second in Saturday’s shot put. On Friday, Geist also advanced in the discus. O’Georgia cleared 7-1 to advance in the high jump by tying for seventh.
The women’s 400-meter relay qualified by running 44.84, the 11th-fastest time of the event.
The qualifying athletes join five other Wildcats headed to the NCAA finals in Eugene, Oregon. They are Collins Kibet in the 800 meters, Maksims Sincukovs in the 400-meter hurdles, Turner Washington in discus, Bailey Roth in the steeplechase, and Alyssa Thompson in the heptathlon.
Justice Summerset tied for 10th in the high jump, and results of a jump off were not available when the Star went to press. The 600-meter relays for both men and women were also yet to be contested.
Carlos Villarreal ran 3:47.91 at 1,500 meters and did not advance.
