Catcher Gwen Svekis hit two home runs, including a three-run homer that broke a tie in the sixth inning, and fifth-ranked Oregon beat the ninth-ranked Arizona Wildcats 5-2 on Friday night in Eugene, Oregon.

Svekis’ home runs spelled disaster for UA ace Taylor McQuillin, who surrendered five runs — her most since opening day — and four hits. She allowed just one hit in the first five innings before the floodgates opened in the sixth. She struck out three but walked five.

Arizona was led at the plate by Jessie Harper, who went 2 for 2 with a pair of doubles. Reyna Carranco returned from a concussion to register a seventh-inning double.

The Wildcats and Ducks will play again Saturday at noon. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
