Former Arizona Wildcats standout Jud Buechler is joining the New York Knicks' staff as an assistant coach β€” and leaving another UA grad, Luke Walton, behind.Β

Buechler is joining the staff of new Knicks coach David Fizdale, who was hired earlier this offseason following the dismissal of Jeff Hornacek. Buechler was one of four assistants hired Thursday.

Buechler, 49, played for Lute Olson at Arizona from 1986-90, then went on to play for seven NBA teams (and win three titles) in the pros. Buechler spent the last two seasons on as a Lakers assistant under Walton, his longtime friend, and coached the franchise's NBA Summer League team.

Walton's staff still includes two players with UA ties β€” Miles Simon and Jessie Mermuys.
