LAFAYETTE, La. – After his team had to play four games in two days because of weather delays here, Arizona coach Jay Johnson was hoping the Wildcats wouldn’t have to start Super Regional play until Saturday.

He did not get his wish.

Arizona’s best-of-three series at Mississippi State will begin Friday, the NCAA announced this morning.

The Wildcats will face the Bulldogs at Dudy Noble Field in Starkville on Friday, Saturday and, if necessary, Sunday. All games will begin at 3 p.m., Tucson time. They will be televised by ESPN2 or ESPNU.

Arizona advanced to the Super Regionals after sweeping Louisiana Lafayette on Monday by scores of 6-3 and 3-1. After rain postponed their game Saturday, the Wildcats ended up playing four games in about 32 hours.

Johnson used ace Nathan Bannister in the first game Monday on two days’ rest. Kevin Ginkel started the second game after pitching in relief Sunday and earlier Monday.

Arizona is taking the morning off in Lafayette before busing to Starkville this afternoon.
