The Arizona Wildcats officially added 22 players to their roster Wednesday. Here are comments on each player from members of the coaching staff (courtesy of UA Athletic Communications):
DE JJ ALLEN
WR coach Tony Dews: “JJ is an outstanding pass rusher with athleticism and good size. He loves playing football, and that shows through the toughness and motor he plays with up front.”
CB LORENZO BURNS
CB coach Donté Williams: “Lorenzo is a great kid. He is a coach’s son, so you know that he is going to do things the way they are supposed to be done. He has an extremely high ceiling, and I know his best football is ahead of him.”
OT BRYSON CAIN
OL coach Jim Michalczik: “Bryson is a real athletic guy with a frame to build on and get big. He could play any of the five positions for us, and that versatility is an important asset for him.”
LB JALEN COCHRAN
Defensive coordinator Marcel Yates: “Jalen is another long, rangy kid with a high motor that loves playing the game. He is very athletic, but he also has a really high football IQ.”
LB JACOB COLACION
QB coach Rod Smith: “Jake is a very athletic, rangy linebacker who has the ability to match up with fast receivers. He can run, is very instinctive and will add much-needed athleticism at the linebacker position.”
WR DEVAUGHN COOPER
Dews: “Devaughn is an explosive, savvy playmaker. He can play inside or out, and he’s a versatile punt and kick returner. He’s just a good all-around athlete.”
S TRISTAN COOPER
Safeties coach Jahmile Addae: “He is physical, explosive and violent on contact. He has a good frame and plays with great instincts. His skills primarily fit best as a box safety for us.”
OT MICHAEL ELETISE
Special-teams/TE coach Charlie Ragle: “First and foremost, Michael is a great kid and extremely loyal. That shows a lot about the character of him and his family. We are excited about the strength, athletic ability and work ethic he will bring to our program.”
FS ISAIAH HAYES
Dews: “Isaiah plays extremely physical. He can play multiple positions and understands the game. He comes from a football family and has the ability to be a great leader on the field.”
DT JUSTIN HOLT
Recruiting coordinator Matt Dudek: “Justin is a very accomplished local talent, and we’re thrilled to bring him into our program as a legacy player with deep family connections. He will be an anchor on our lines for years to come.”
LB FRANCISCO NELSON
Addae: “Frankie played rush end in high school, but for us he could even play an outside linebacker position. He is a very explosive, dynamic pass rusher that is long and has a good frame. I feel we’re getting a really good player.”
LB KAHI NEVES
Ragle: “Kahi is quite young for his grade class, and he has a body type that is still growing. He demonstrates great toughness and has great potential. He could even develop into a defensive lineman with how much room he has to grow.”
TE JAMIE NUNLEY
Ragle: “Jamie is a big, long, athletic body type. We feel he has the versatility to play inside and out for us. We’re excited for him to join our program this spring.”
CB ANTONIO PARKS
RB coach Calvin Magee: “Antonio is a fighter and competitive as heck. He loves the game of football. He studies the game, is highly skillful and will take on any challenge.”
WR SHAWN POINDEXTER
Ragle: “He is an extremely athletic player that we’re excited to see what he can do in our program. He is a big, long target with huge upside.”
S GAVIN ROBERTSON
Addae: “Gavin is a big kid. When he gets to the ball, it is violent. He can play in the box or in space. He plays the game the way it should be played.”
OT HARPER SHERMAN
Michalczik: “We grayshirted Harper to give his body a chance to grow and mature. Coming from Canada, the grayshirt year really let him use the extra months to improve his size and strength.”
QB KHALIL TATE
Smith: “Khalil is an extremely competitive player who has the ability to run and throw the football at a high level. He is simply one of the best football players in the state of California.”
RB J.J. TAYLOR
Magee: “We are really excited about his love for football. He is explosive and a student of the game. I think he’s going to be an extremely fun player to coach, and I can't wait to have him here.”
S CHACHO ULLOA
Dews: “Chacho is a ball hawk. He is very active defensively and finds a way to make plays. He has a dynamic ability to get the ball, which is what his position is all about.”
OT KEENAN WALKER
Ragle: “Keenan is an athletic yet nasty offensive lineman. He exudes all the traits when you are recruiting offensive linemen. I think he has an extremely high ceiling.”
S JARRIUS WALLACE
Addae: “Jarrius is fluid, a quick-twitch player who is comfortable playing as a deep defender. He is a smart kid and uses his mental capacity to make instinctive plays on the field.”
