Arizona’s Tiger Christensen tees off on No. 18 during on the first day of competition Friday at the 2024 NCAA Men’s Golf Championships at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California. UA could be in for a dog fight Monday in its quest to be one of the last eight teams standing.

The UA men’s golf team slipped down the standings at the NCAA Championships on Sunday but still made the 15-team cut to advance to Monday’s fourth round.

UA shot a 9-over 297 in the third round Sunday at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California, and is tied for ninth place with a 21-over, 885 total.

The final eight teams after Monday’s round advance to the match play quarterfinals Tuesday.

UA is right in the mix to be in the top eight, as it trails eighth-place Florida (884) by only a shot heading into Monday.

Illinois (862) leads, followed by Virginia (868), Vanderbilt (873), Florida State (874), Ohio State (877), Auburn (879), North Carolina (879) and Florida.

Georgia Tech is tied with UA at ninth.

Five teams are within six shots of the Wildcats and Yellow Jackets: Texas (887) is 11th, followed by Baylor (888), Oklahoma (889), Tennessee (891) and East Tennessee State (891).

The Wildcats were tied for first after Friday’s opening round with a 2-over 290. They fell to a tie for sixth after shooting a 10-over 298 Saturday.

Among individuals, UA’s Filip Jakubcik and Tiger Christensen are tied for 19th with a 2-over 218 total, seven shots off the lead. Other Arizona scores through three rounds are Sam Sommerhauser (6-over 222) and Zach Pollo (11-over 227).

The quarterfinal winners Tuesday will play in the semifinals later that day, with the championship set for Wednesday.

The Golf Channel will air the end of Monday’s round, with coverage starting at 3 p.m. Tucson time.
