Arizona's Clark Candiotti, shown pitching vs. ASU on March 16, will start the Wildcats' NCAA Tournament opener vs. Grand Canyon on Friday night.

As expected, Arizona is altering its rotation for this weekend’s NCAA Tournament.

Right-hander Clark Candiotti will start the Wildcats’ opener against Grand Canyon on Friday night at Hi Corbett Field.

Candiotti, a transfer from Wichita State, has been Arizona’s No. 2 starter for most of the season. But with usual Friday-night guy Jackson Kent in a slump, Candiotti has been bumped up.

Candiotti made the All-Pac-12 Team and takes a 7-3 record with a 3.11 ERA into the GCU game, which follows the Tucson Regional opener between Dallas Baptist and West Virginia. Candiotti will face GCU sophomore left-hander Grant Richardson (4-1, 4.03).

Arizona did not announce its starter for Saturday, a decision that could be matchup-dependent. Kent started against Dallas Baptist on March 1 at the Frisco College Baseball Classic, allowing two runs on six hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in 5⅓ innings.
