Oregon State athletic director Scott Barnes was named to the NCAA Men's Basketball Committee, filling the spot automatically vacated when Dave Heeke left his job as Arizona's AD last week.

Barnes served from 2010-15 on what is commonly known as the NCAA selection committee, since it seeds and places teams in the NCAA Tournament field. This time, Barnes was appointed by the Pac-12 to fill Heeke's spot, and he will serve as the conference's representative until August.

Heeke served on the committee for a year and a half, having been appointed by the Pac-12 in July 2022 to replace UCLA AD Martin Jarmond, shortly after UCLA and USC announced that they were moving to the Big Ten for the 2024-25 academic year.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be on the committee," Heeke told the Star last season, "and with that comes the responsibility to engage and invest time in what is maybe the best sporting event that we have in this country, the NCAA Tournament. We owe that to the conferences, the coaches and the players throughout the country."
