Quarterback Noah Fifita’s emergence is one reason Arizona may still contend for a Big 12 title in its first year in the conference in 2024.

The Arizona Wildcats were voted No. 21 in the preseason U.S. LBM Coaches Poll on Monday.

Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, Alabama, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State and Florida State are the Top 10 teams in the coaches poll.

Arizona is the fourth-highest Big 12 team in the coaches poll behind Utah (13), Kansas State (17) and Oklahoma State (18); Kansas (24) is the only other Big 12 team ranked.

The Associated Press Top 25 will be announced next Monday.

Voting for the coaches poll is done weekly by a panel of FBS head coaches. Arizona head coach Brent Brennan isn't one of the coaches on the panel. Former UA head coach Jedd Fisch, who's now at Washington, is on the voting panel; the Huskies aren't ranked in the coaches poll, but received 123 votes.

Arizona ended its 2023 season on a seven-game winning streak, which included a victory over former Big 12 team Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl, and finished with a 10-3 record, becoming the fourth team in program history to win at least 10 games. Arizona finished No. 11 in the Associated Press Top 25, the highest ranking to end a season since 1998.

With several starters back, including quarterback Noah Fifita, wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, linebacker Jacob Manu and cornerback Tacario Davis, among others, the Wildcats are expected to be among the top teams in the Big 12 under Brennan.

Arizona kicks off the 2024 season against New Mexico at Arizona Stadium on Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN.
