Canyon del Oro's Kayden Luke, right, batters his way into the end zone to open the scoring in the first quarter against Yuma Catholic in the 4A State Football Championship Game in Tempe on Dec. 1, 2023.

Another star running back from Canyon del Oro High School is headed to the University of Arizona.

Kayden Luke, the prolific back for the state-champion Dorados, is planning to attend the UA and join the football team as a preferred walk-on.

Luke’s parents confirmed the news to the Star shortly before Luke announced it on social media. All Sports Tucson first reported it Saturday night.

Luke rushed for 2,307 yards and 29 touchdowns this past season for CDO, which defeated Yuma Catholic to win the 4A state title. Luke also compiled 66 tackles as a linebacker.

Luke is a bruising, tackle-breaking running back as well as a top wrestler in the state in the 215-pound weight division.

Luke follows the path laid out by CDO grads Ka’Deem Carey and Stevie Rocker Jr. Carey played for Arizona from 2011-13 and is the Wildcats’ all-time leading rusher. Rocker rushed for 153 yards during the 2021 season and is currently in the NCAA transfer portal.
