Washington catcher Sydney Stewart leads off a base against Minnesota during an NCAA softball game on Friday, Feb 16.

Arizona softball coach Caitlin Lowe keeps adding depth to her roster.

Last week, it was Saya Swain, a pitcher, who transferred from Iowa State.

On Tuesday morning, Sydney Stewart announced on her X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram accounts that she is coming to Tucson.Β

Stewart is transferring from former Pac-12 foe Washington and was listed as the No. 6 player in the transfer portal by Softball America. She is a catcher who was named to the NCFA Pacific Region third team last season as a sophomore. She started in 44 of 45 games she played in, hit .321 and clubbed eight doubles, a triple and five home runs. She drove in 18 runs and stole seven bases.Β

She will feel right at home in Hillenbrand Stadium. On March 16, she went 4 for 4, hitting a home run and two doubles, which drove in four runs, to lead the Huskies to a 13-2 victory in six innings over host UA.Β

She brings more experience behind the plate to a roster than has rising sophomore Emily Schepp, who saw action in 51 games as a freshman last season, and incoming freshman Emma Kavanagh. Former Wildcat Olivia DiNardo transferred to Nebraska earlier this month.Β

Stewart, who is from San Jose, California, played at St. Francis High School leading them to various championships. She was an NSCA All-American Athlete, Cal-Hi Sports Co-Softball Player of the Year and SB Live Athlete of the Year. She also has was meant to play to softball as her mom, Sara, played at Sonoma State and her dad, Colin, played baseball at San Diego State and Sonoma State. He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves and played two seasons in the minor leagues.
