Ironwood Ridge's Jared McKemy (4) gets a big hug from Noe Becerra (58) after his catch and run opened the scoring in the game against Sunnyside in the first round of the DII state playoffs at Ironwood Ridge High School, Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, Oro Valley, Ariz. Kelly Presnell / Arizona Daily Star

Sunnyside coach Glenn Posey came into Friday night's showdown with No. 4 Ironwood Ridge confident that his team would know all the plays the Nighthawks would run, before they lined up.

But I-Ridge coach Matt Johnson took offense and completely flipped the script, opting for an aerial assault, as the Nighthawks scored all five touchdowns through the air in a 34-30 win in the first round of the Division II state playoffs.

Jared McKemy was the main benefactor, finishing the night with four receptions for 152 yards and three touchdowns. The senior also pulled in an interception.

Catalina Foothills junior quarterback Rhett Rodriguez and Flowing Wells senior running back Dionte Flores continued to shine as the postseason got underway and once again earned a spot in our player of the week voting.

Meanwhile, Benson senior quarterback Nick Hernandez and Pusch Ridge Christian sophomore running back Tamerat McLeod fly under the radar to help their squads advance to the quarterfinals.
