One of the premier high school football programs in Tucson is looking for a new head coach for the second time in the past five years.
Eric Rogers resigned from his post at Salpointe Catholic High School earlier this week after four seasons as the leader of the Lancers.
Salpointe advanced to the semifinals of the 6A playoffs this past season before losing to Scottsdale Saguaro. The Lancers finished 10-3.
Salpointe compiled a 35-12 record under Rogers from 2020-23. The Lancers advanced to the 5A state championship in 2021, falling to Scottsdale Horizon.
"Eric resigned earlier this week," Salpointe athletic director Phil Gruensfelder said via text message Friday morning. "We appreciate the past four years that he has dedicated to our school. We are grateful for his commitment and wish him the best of luck. We have opened the position and hope to hire a new leader of our football program soon."
Rogers succeeded Dennis Bene, who indicated at the time that he was retiring from coaching. Last year he returned to the sidelines as a defensive assistant at Sahuaro.
Salpointe has been a state runner-up six times and has won one state championship, in 2013 under Bene.
Messages left with Rogers on Friday were not immediately returned.
