Tanque Verde's unlikely run to the state final came to an end Saturday with a 4-1 loss to Phoenix Anthem Prep in the Division IV state title game.
Anthem Prep scored in the 38th, 56th, 61st and 64th minutes to take a 4-0 lead.
“Anthem Prep is a great team, really fast in transitions and they just finish when they needed to,” TV coach Shana Olayvar said.
Sophomore midfielder/defender Alejandra Alvarez scored for Tanque Verde in the 65th minute.
Tanque Verde’s postseason run came with a first-year head coach and only three seniors.
“We’re excited to see what next year brings and hopefully we’ll be in this exact same situation next year," Olayvar said. "Except with a win."
