The busiest — and possibly best — day of the high school sports season is here.

Six Southern Arizona teams will square off Monday night for three state championships spread across two sports.

The action begins at 4 p.m., when top-ranked Sabino takes on third-seeded Sahuarita at Hi Corbett Field for the Class 3A state baseball championship. When the Sabercats and Mustangs are finished, top-seeded Nogales will face No. 2 Catalina Foothills for the Class 4A state baseball crown. First pitch for their game is scheduled for 7 p.m.

And in Tempe, a pair of Southern Arizona teams — No. 3 Cienega and No. 8 Ironwood Ridge — will square off for the Class 5A state softball crown. First pitch at Farrington Stadium is at 5:30 p.m.

The three state championship games cap a whirlwind few weeks for the involved teams. The Class 5A and 4A teams played double-elimination tournaments. Nogales’ baseball team climbed to its title game through the losers bracket, and Cienega’s softball team played Peoria Centennial twice in two days to secure a spot in the final.
