Two Tucson-area softball teams didn't waste any time Saturday morning with trips to the state finals on the line.
Catalina Foothills took down No. 3 Mohave Valley River Valley 12-0Β at Rose Mofford Sports Complex to reach Tuesday's Division III championship game at ASU's Farrington Stadium, just minutes after Pueblo knocked off top-seeded Benson 10-0 to reach Monday's Division IV final, also at Farrington Stadium.
Seventh-seeded Foothills can win its first-ever softball championship on Tuesday night, when it takes on No. 5 Payson on Tuesday in Tempe. The Falcons knocked of the No. 2 seed Friday night and have won eight straight games to reach the finals for the first time since 2001.
No. 5 Pueblo, meanwhile, is in the finals for the first time since winning the Class 4A championship in 1990. The Warriors, who face No. 2 Camp Verde, have won four straight games since a road loss at Douglas on April 25, outscoring opponents 32-5 in three playoff games.
