Southern Arizona high school softball, baseball teams turn focus to state playoff bracket

The state baseball and softball playoffs will begin Saturday, with first-round games throughout the state. The following Southern Arizona teams have made the playoffs. Here's a look at their pairings.
Softball

No. 10 Tucson at No. 7 Mesa Red Mountain, 10:15 a.m.
No. 13 Rincon/University at No. 4 Tempe Corona del Sol, 10:15 a.m.
Class 5A
No. 3 Cienega vs. No. 14 Sahuaro, 10:15 a.m.
No. 8 Ironwood Ridge vs. No. 9 Gilbert Desert Edge, 10:15 a.m.
No. 11 Mountain View vs. No. 6 Peoria Centennial, 10:15 a.m.
Class 4A
No. 1 Canyon del Oro vs. No. 16 Douglas, 10:15 a.m.
No. 5 Salpointe Catholic vs. No. 12 Amphitheater, 10:15 a.m.
No. 13 Rio Rico at No. 4 Peoria Sunrise Mountain, 10:15 a.m.
Class 3A
No. 7 Empire vs. No. 10 Snowflake, 3 p.m. (at Rose Mofford Softball Complex)

No. 3 Seton Catholic Prep vs. No. 14 Tempe Marcos de Niza, 4 p.m.

The top eight rankings were released, which include No. 1 Sabino, No. 3 Sahuarita and No. 8 Catalina. Bracket to be released after Friday’s play-in games. First round games to be played May 4.
