Oregon State and Washington State continue to use the term "Pac-12" for the conference they are expanding with the addition of San Diego State, Fresno State, Boise State and Colorado State.
Good try, but it wonโt work. It should be renamed the Mountain Pacific Conference, or something similar.
It reminds me of when Sports Illustrated, for 50 years a must-read every week, downsized its product beyond recognizability and moved forward without legendary writers Curry Kirkpatrick, Dan Jenkins, Rick Reilly and Frank Deford, among others.
The magazine supposedly still comes out 12 times per year, but few have been fooled.
But I do admire the hustle and work of the โPac-12sโโ new commissioner Teresa Gould. What an improvement on Larry Scott and George Kliavkoff. Gould has a strong Tucson connection: she is married to Ron Gould, an ex-Santa Rita High School football standout who is now the running backs coach of the Los Angeles Rams.
