Sad news: Carl Trimmer, who won more than 800 main events in his 50-year auto racing career in Tucson, died recently. He was 86.

Trimmer is easily on the Mount Rushmore of Tucson auto racers, sharing the stage with 17-time Indy 500 driver Roger McCluskey, six-time Indy 500 racer Bill Cheesbourg, and Red Greth, a member of the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame.

Racer Carl Trimmer at Raven Raceway, June 6, 1987.

Trimmer, a cement truck driver when he wasn’t on a race track, won 10 NASCAR Sunbelt championships in the glory days of auto racing in Southern Arizona. He won on dirt, asphalt, you name it, and raced and won at every conceivable Tucson racing facility from 1960-2010.
