There was no Indoor Football played in Arizona in a maddening 2020 with COVID-19 being in the way.
But, in 2021, it appears, there will be three IFL teams in Arizona:
The Arizona Rattlers, who have won four Arena Football League titles and, in their first year in the IFL in 2017, won that championship.
The Tucson Sugar Skulls, who were new to the league in 2019.
And ....
On Tuesday, a news conference will be held at 3 p.m., at Prescott Valley’s 6,000-seat Findlay Toyota Center, where, according to a source, another IFL franchise will be announced to begin play in 2021.
A news release Thursday stated, there will be an unveiling of “a Brand New Professional Sports Team.”
It didn’t say which sport, but the IFL has been looking to find ways to grow, even with the year off due to COVID-19.
On Wednesday, it was announced that Massachusetts will be joining the league, which was wiped out one week into the 2020 season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rattlers coach Kevin Guy and his wife are co-owners of the Sugar Skulls, who began play in 2019. Cathy runs the Tucson team, while Kevin’s focus is on the Rattlers.
The Guys won’t be affiliated with the Prescott Valley franchise.
Even with the year off and COVID wreaking financial havoc to the league, which doesn’t have a national TV contract, the league is intent on growing the league.
There could be 14 or 15 teams in 2021.
