The Houston Rockets have acquiredΒ Jason TerryΒ from Sacramento, a salary dump of sorts, and will pay the final year of Terry’s guaranteed $5.6 million contract. That creates a big jam in Houston’s backcourt that will surely affect rookieΒ Nick Johnson. Terry, who turns 37 next week, is seen as a mentor and three-point shooting specialist (103 of his 152 field-goal attempts last season were three-pointers), backing up startersΒ James HardenΒ andΒ Patrick Beverley. Where does Johnson, the 2014 Pac-12 Player of the Year fit? He is projected behind second-team guardsΒ Isaiah CanaanΒ andΒ Troy Daniels. Last season, Canaan was rotated between Houston and the NBA D-League Rio Grande Valley Vipers five times; Daniels was sent to the D-League three separate times. Johnson is likely to ride the Rio Grande shuttle in the same manner during his rookie season.
