One of the best ways to experience Tucson is by hopping on a bike. And with the near-perfect weather lately, a bike ride is amazing.
This weekend, ride as a group to different spots around town; listen to poetry and music; and picnic together. Poets Pedal is organized by Living Streets Alliance, the University of Arizona Poetry Center and Edible Baja Arizona to celebrate biking, poetry, and gastronomy.
You'll be making four stops
1. The first is at Dragoon Brewing Company where you can enjoy a beer or take one to go.
2. The second stop is at Manzo Elementary School where you'll take a tour of their gardens and listen to students' poetry.
3. The third stop is at Mercado San Agustin to refuel. Grab an empanada at La Estrella Bakery.
4. The last stop is at Mission Garden for a picnic. They will be serving Barrio Bread and dips to start you off, but you should pack your own picnic.
It's a five-mile ride. One way.
The route is five miles one way, mostly car-free, and safe for all ages and abilities. Here's your chance to get that bike out from storage, or you can rent one from BICAS for the day. Living Streets Alliance will be there to cover the basics of group riding and provide basic mechanical support for bikes.
And listening to three poets
During the ride, you'll listen to readings by three Tucson poets: Wendy Burk, Simmons Buntin, and Kristen Nelson.
