The Women Warriors event provides necessities to women veterans in need.

An event for women veterans facing homelessness, eviction, job loss, military sexual trauma and PTSD is being held this weekend and organizers are seeking donations.

Women Warriors was started by Karen Kuciver, the wife of a disabled army veteran, two years ago.

While volunteering with Primavera Project Action for Veterans she learned that veteran women have "unique needs that are not met by the traditional veteran service organizations," Kuciver said.

As a survivor of rape, domestic violence, alcohol abuse, drug addiction and homelessness, Kuciver says she is able to show female veterans empathy for their situations and can offer unique resolutions.

"Taking what I have learned through my journey, I created this event that specializes in empowering female veterans called Women Warriors," Kuciver said. "I have made it my life's ambition to help those who have served our country with grace, honor and dignity."

Kuciver is in the process of making Women Warriors into a nonprofit organization to help women veterans with peer support groups, holistic therapy, equine therapy, yoga and more.

Women veterans in need can go to the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to get free clothing, personal hygiene products and haircuts, as well as a free meal provided by Mama's Hawaiian BBQ.

Donations of tampons, pads, incontinence underwear, denture glue, foot powder, sunscreen and Chapstick will be accepted from the public up until the end of the event, which will be held at the Pima Community College's downtown campus, 1255 N. Stone Ave.

Donations can be made ahead of the event and any time by emailing Karen Kuciver at ww2@womenwarriors2.com.
