Future rock stars try their hands out on a variety of different instruments at Preschool of Rock.

Little rock stars can get a crash course in music Saturday morning.

The Drum and Drummer School of Music is hosting a Preschool of Rock class for kids ages 2-5 years old.

Classes include singing, playing with hand percussion instruments, electric drumming, mini guitars, pianos and drums.

It might sound like a headache waiting to happen, but it's not chaos.

Class is structured with teaching time, story time and music instruction.

"We bring out some hand percussion instruments for them to play along with and teach basic things like counting to four, clapping on beat, clapping on second and fourth beat of every measure," said Paulina Kervran, class instructor and local karaoke host.

Even the youngest of participants are intrigued, Kervran said.

Class is then moved into the electric drum lab where the children get to try drumming. From there they move into the jam hub where there are miniature guitars, pianos, drums and more.

"They get to try everything out," Kervran said. "It's so awesome for sure."

Kervran guides the class through different songs and plays songs for them on the guitar. She also reads stories and sometimes does puppet shows.

Though the class is called Preschool of Rock, songs are usually ones the children know such as "Happy and You Know it" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" with some rock thrown in.

"It's really cool seeing them engage in the activities," Kervran said.

Classes are held twice a month — on the first Saturday and third Wednesday — and are 45-60 minutes long.

Eventually the school plans to turn Preschool of Rock into a six-week course with classes once a week.

The Drum and Drummer School of Music hosts a variety of classes from guitar to vocals to drums for adults and children.
