Your kids can become underwater explorers right here in the desert, thanks to a free weekly program at Woods Memorial Library.
Led by marine biology students from the University of Arizona, the Underwater Explorers program teaches kids ages 8-15 about the ocean, ocean life, water and water cycles and more.
They'll experiment, put their hands in slime, see creatures from the ocean and do activities to spark the imagination and increase their knowledge. They'll also get to take educational handouts home to further their learning.
“This is a great program and just one out of hundreds of exciting events for kids that we offer every month," said Holly Schaffer, the library's spokeswoman. "It’s educational, fun, and hands-on. It really gives kids and young adults an opportunity to shape their learning experience and get excited about marine biology.”
So far, the program has introduced children to a preserved squid they were able to touch and a preserved hammerhead shark, among other things. Find out what's next by attending this Friday, Feb. 2.
