The Navajo Nation and the University of Arizona are partnering to encourage Navajo students seeking a career in medicine.
Tribal and college officials will sign a six-year agreement Thursday establishing a scholarship fund for tribal members. Tuition will be paid for up to seven Navajo students per year at the universityβs Tucson or Phoenix campuses.
The university will match funding students receive from the tribeβs scholarship office. Students who benefit from the fund will be required to serve Navajo communities for at least five years after completing their medical residency.
