Anissa Valles has varnish applied after a dental exam during a health fair at El Rio Community Health Center, June 21 2014.

Adults and children ages 12 and up without dental insurance can get free dental care at Houghton Family Dental Care on Saturday.

The Tucson practice is hosting Free Dentistry Day, a national day dedicated to improving the oral health of families who can't afford dental services.

Each person will have the choice of one cleaning, two fillings or two extractions between 8 a.m. and noon that day. Patients will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

“We understand that many people in our community and across the nation haven’t been to the dentist for a long period of time. Some don’t understand the importance of dental health, but more often than not, they don’t have the financial means,” said Dr. Shazim Fayyaz, of Houghton Family Dental. “This event is a great opportunity for us to share our time and resources with those less fortunate and give back to the community.”
