Here's what Ellis has to say about her life as an artist and why Instagram is one of the best places to share her work.

What made you start an Instagram account?

When Instagram first came out, I was in art school and became obsessed with sharing the progress of my work. Instagram is such a great platform for artists and creative makers!

What do you like to post?

I typically post progress of my artwork, finished pieces.

What inspires you to create and share your art with others?

Sharing artwork with other creative brains gives me so much inspiration! Sometimes it's a quiet world for an artist—hiding in studios making, making, making. Once you graduate critique-college life, getting feedback can be challenging. Opportunities to post art on social media like Instragram can lend a hand in seeing what's working (or not!) in a piece.

What are some of your favorite pieces?

Some of my favorite pieces I've created are my mixed media pieces. I collect old black and white photographs and create transfers and alternative printmaking processes to manipulate the image, then I layer and collage watercolor illustrations and pressed flora. I'm obsessed with Frida Kahlo, especially The Two Frida's and also scream over Egon Schiele, Helen Frankenthaler and Cindy Sherman's work.

What advice do you have for the aspiring artist?

Embrace your individuality and wholeheartedly believe and love yourself, always make it a double and reapply that lipstick—you never really know.

What do you hope people take away from your images?

When people look at my work, I hope they are reminded of their individuality and their space in the universe.

Who else do you like to follow on Instagram?

My instagram feed is flooded with so many rad makers it's hard to pick a favorite! I stalk @bontucson, @manrepeller, @desertvintage for fashion and lifestyle, @laurie_melia_ceramics @thejealouscurator and @artisticmoods for maker inspiration!

Anything else?

I'll be at the Holiday Bazaar at the Mercado San Augustin this weekend! I also love commissions and creating tattoo imagery!
