Studio offers yoga for younger set

When it came time for Aspen to introduce herself, she led the Kids Yoga group in a stretch called The Scorpion.

Yoga is not just for grown-ups.

In fact, all of that stretching, breathing and meditating is a great way to have more relaxed and peaceful kiddos. And THAT definitely leads to more peaceful parents.

So, share the yoga love with your little ones at one of these five classes. 

Yogi Tots

What: You and your kids — walkers to 2-year-olds — will do yoga movement with song and rhyme. Wear comfortable clothes. The class is hosted by Little Cardboard Rocket. 

When: Friday, April 13, 10:30-11:15 a.m.

Yoga 4 Youth

What: A seven-week session at Yoga Oasis for kids ages 5-11 at the same time as YogaHour for adults. Participants will practice poses, short meditations, learn to breathe in different ways for different situations and improve flexibility, strength and peacefulness. There will also be games, journaling and partner yoga. The spring session has already started, but drop-ins are welcome.

When: Thursdays until May 3, 4:15 p.m.

Yoga PreSchool Storytime

What: Listen to desert-themed stories at the library while doing yoga poses as action develops. This event is for children ages 3-5, including those with special needs and their caregivers. Yoga mats are provided. 

When: Wednesday, April 11, 10:30 a.m. 

Where: Joel D. Valdez Main Library, 101 N. Stone Ave.

Yoga Storytime

What: Families will do yoga poses while listening to a story.

When: Thursday, April 12, 10-11 a.m.

Little Yogis Toddler Yoga

What: Eight-week series for children ages 2-4. Parental involvement is required as children learn coordination, balance and strength through yoga movement to song and rhythm. 

When: Saturdays, April 21 through June 9, 9 a.m. 

Where: The Core at La Encantada, 2905 E. Skyline Drive, Suite 277

Cost: $50 per child, one child per parent
