More than 10,000 Tucsonans marched in the streets of downtown Saturday as part of the local Women's March on Washington demonstration.
Tucson joined a long list of cities and towns around the world that held marches today, including the Women's March in Washington D.C. where more than half a million people attended the event, according to the Associated Press.
The Tucson Police Department estimated about 15,000 people attended the Women's March in Tucson today, according to organizers.
Tucson's event began at 10 a.m. in Armory Park, where people assembled despite the cold windy weather and light showers. The march began around 11:15 a.m., moving north on Sixth Avenue, west on Congress Street and north on Stone Avenue to the Joel D. Valdez Library Plaza.
The crowd of women and men, young and old carried signs, sang, cheered and chanted "This is what democracy looks like."
