Country meets city at a new boutique and spa that recently opened downtown.
We mean that literally.ย
Chic Boutique's owner, Stacy Madigan, grew up in agriculture, and ran a dairy farm in Marana with her father in her previous life. So, she considers herself the country part of Chic.
The city is her husband, Jerry Madigan, who spent much of his life working in the automotive business.
"I took my business and agriculture knowledge and infused it with all the things I like," Stacy said. "I like spas. I like getting mani-pedis. I love getting my hair done. I like waxing my eyebrows. I like bags. So why not put them all into one? I want a woman to feel pretty inside and out because, you know, we all have blue days, so if Chic can help somebody in the smallest way, then that's what we're here for."
The combination of city and country is obvious the minute you walk into Chic Boutique, 25 E. Congress Street, with rows of sophisticated party dresses, lingerie, cowboy boots, jeans and designer bags and shoes. Think Coach, Dooney & Burke and Michael Kors.
And the decor, of course.
Sleek design is paired with touches of country is "shabby chic." The color schemeย โ black and white with pops of color โ was inspired by Madigan's background in Holstein cattle, she said.ย
The couple has worked tirelessly for months renovating the 4,200 square foot building that formerly housed Lesco Optical and then sat vacant for three or four years.ย
With the exception of hiring someone to lay tile, Jerry and Stacy did everything themselves.
"It's really cool to see how it turned out," Stacy said. "It had turquoise walls and a mustard ceiling with green accent walls and gray, smelly carpet... Jerry built everything. He's been awesome."
The front half of the shop is the boutique, where you'll find clothing, accessories, handbags and shoes, like these:
Keep walking and you'll come to the spa area, which Stacy hopes to have completed by the end of March. That's where the magic happens โ massage, waxing, eyelash extensions, manicures, pedicures, facials and hair styling.ย
Though the spa portion won't fully open until the end of March, some services will roll out soon.
Waxing starts Jan. 15. Facials and eyelash extensions start Jan. 26 and massage will start mid-February.
Oh, and get this. There are plans for a bar.
That's right. You'll be able to sip on a complimentary glass of wine, champagne or beer while you get pampered or go shopping on Friday evenings and Saturdays. If alcohol isn't your thing, you can have flavored or plain bottled water.ย
Chick Boutique will have eight employees. If you're looking for work in a spa doing hair or manicures and pedicures, take your resume to Stacy at the boutique.ย
Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Saturday hours will vary, depending on events downtown.
