UA baseball duo ranked high in draft
Baseball America’s latest projections before the June 8 MLB draft has Arizona shortstop Kevin Newman going No. 26 overall, and UA second baseman Scott Kingery No. 34. It wouldn’t be much of a surprise if Salpointe shortstop-catcher-pitcher Donny Sands, who signed with New Mexico, went in the first 10 rounds, too. Sands is scheduled to fly to Tampa early this week to work out for the New York Yankees. Canyon del Oro first baseman Nick Ames, who has signed with UNLV, will also work out for the Yankees. Ames was invited to a Houston Astros camp this weekend in Los Angeles.
