UA decathlete faces hurdles in title run

When Pac-12 decathlon champion Pau Tonnesen, an Arizona junior, gets to the NCAA championships next month in Eugene, Oregon, his road to the national title will be difficult. Georgia’s Garrett Scantling is the favorite; he has scored as high as 8,232 this season. Wisconsin’s Zach Ziemek is next at 7,964 and Tonnesen is third at 7,823. If Tonnesen wins the NCAA title, it would make Arizona the first school with four decathlon champs: Jake Arnold won in 2006 and 2007; Klaus Ambrosch won in 1998; Derek Huff won in 1989.
