UA baseball coachΒ Andy LopezΒ did his homework during the fall recruiting period. He evaluated and signed Cochise College shortstopΒ Louis Boyd, who was overlooked by most top college recruiters because Douglas is so remote. ButΒ Todd Inglehartβs Cochise team reached the NJCAA World Series in 2013 and 2014 and has become a national power. He found Boyd in North Vancouver, British Columbia, of all places, and after missing the 2013 season with concussion-related issues, Boyd led the Apaches with a .343 batting average in 2014 and made the NJCAA All-Tournament team by going 8 for 15.
