Sahuaro's coach Mark Chandler paces in the dugout during his team's game against Scottsdale Saguaro during the second round of the Division II state playoffs. The No. 2 Cougars defeated the No. 15 Sabercats 12-8 on May, 6, 2014.Β

Lopez similarly was in the right place at the right time to sign two almost totally unknown prospects fromΒ Mark Chandler’s Sahuaro High School program. CatcherΒ Cesar SalazarΒ and pitcherΒ Javier MedinaΒ signed with Arizona even though they’ve never played a game at Sahuaro. The two Hermosillo, Sonora, products moved to Tucson two years ago, established residency in 2012-13, as per AIA rules, but were also prohibited by the AIA from playing in 2013-14. They played a full American Legion schedule and made the prestigious Area Code Games team and are now eligible to play for Sahuaro. Both had a chance to leave high school, sign with pro teams and move to the Dominican Republic in a training program, but chose to stick it out with the Cougars.
