Robert Seby gets ready to hit the ball in the first set of the 14-year-old and under championship game in the Copper Bowl Junior Tennis Tournament at Hilton El Conquistador Jan. 7, 2010. Seby, 13 in this photograph, has been Tucson's leading boys tennis players for about eight years.Β

One local letter-of-intent day signing that got little attention was that of tennis standoutΒ Robert SebyΒ signing with Santa Clara. Seby has been Tucson’s leading boys tennis players of the last seven or eight years; he recently won the singles and doubles titles in the USTA National Selection tournament in Honolulu. Seby attends Basis Tucson North charter school and is coached by former UA tennis regularΒ Mark Hardy, who is the father of Baltimore Orioles shortstopΒ J.J. Hardy. Seby will join a Santa Clara team with an international makeup: the Broncos’ four leading players are from Russia, England, Indonesia and Australia.
