The Edward Chesin family's home was photographed in 1960. The house in Wilshire Heights was designed to accommodate gracious entertaining and yet be welcoming to a large family.

Curved patio wall separates the formal front patio from the parking area. Masses of greenery are interspersed throughout the patio which has a flooring of cement squares. Near the wall an Oriental figure watches over the small pond. Beyond the far wall is the carport.

A stone fireplace in the living room offers startling contrast with the floor-to-ceiling windows on either side of it. Shades of orange, gold and aqua are combined against a background of white carpeting and sheer white draperies in this formal room. French telephone on the end table lends a gay touch β it's usable, too.

Against a background of white wall paper with a red design the Chesins have placed this lovely painting of a picnic scene. The bedspread in the master bedroom is white with accent pillows of red, gold and turquoise. Carpeting is delicate blue. In the adjacent bath, the color scheme remains, red, white and blue, but blue replaces white as the dominant color.

The window in the turquoise and white kitchen faces the front entrance patio. Countered island (right) and cupboard above separate the kitchen from the adjacent family room. Behind the kitchen are the pantry and housekeeper's quarters. Her bedroom window looks out on the front patio.

From this stunning, modern ramada at the terraced end of the Chesin patio, one can look across the velvety lawn to the swimming pool and its ramada. This terraced section (foreground) of the patio makes a lovely setting for gala cocktail gatherings or dancing after dinner. Not pictured is a nearby circular conversation pit with barbecue where guests can sit around the edge and chat while the steaks are being broiled.

The family room, just off the kitchen, has doors leading to the swimming pool patio and the children's patio which are on opposite sides of the house. The hall leads to the children's rooms. Bright turquoise sofas and salmon-colored lounges add a gay touch to the room which has a white ceiling with salmon beams.

Stunning contemporary painting of Japanese figures centers the wall above the burnished orange sofa in the oriental living room. The white-carpeted room opens by way of sliding doors to Mr. Chesin's den (background). The paintings in the living room and den are by Mrs. Chesin's cousin, Paul Freeman, of New York.
