On the night a handful of Sun Devil students taunted Kerr before tipoff — disrespectful comments about the 1984 death of Kerr’s father — Kerr was superb. He swished a 3-pointer 12 seconds after the tip and scored a career-high 20 points in the first half, including a perfect 6 for 6 from 3-point range. He did not commit a turnover in 32 minutes, finishing with 22 points. “I’ve never seen Steve get 20 points in a half,” said Olson. “I assure you that was his answer to those jerks.”
