Last week: Defeated Cal 45-31

This week: vs. Rice (Saturday, 6 p.m., Pac-12 Networks)

Comment: Ranked No. 8 in the preseason AP Top 25, the Cardinal remains unranked despite a four-game winning streak. Based on the initial ranking, this is a disappointing season for Stanford. It shouldn’t be viewed that way. There’s no shame in going 9-3, especially with the losses coming against 2016 Pac-12 heavyweights Washington, Washington State and Colorado. The Cardinal likely will have to replace Christian McCaffrey next year, but it appears Stanford has found its quarterback. After some initial struggles, Keller Chryst has a 5-0 touchdown-to-interception ratio the past two weeks.
